A CHARTER ORDINANCE EXEMPTING THE CITY OF MEDICINE LODGE, KANSAS, FROM THE PROVISIONS OF K.S.A. 25-2120 AND K.S.A. 25-313 RELATING TO THE ELECTION OF OFFICERS AND THEIR TERMS OF OFFICE, AND PROVIDING SUBSTITUTE AND ADDITIONAL PROVISIONS ON THE SAME SUBJECT.
WHEREAS, the City of Medicine Lodge adopted Charter Ordinance Number 20 dealing with scheduling of city elections and the terms of office of the Mayor and Council; and,
WHEREAS, Kansas Senate Bill 105, allows cities to establish an alternative term of office start date; and,
WHEREAS, The City Council of Medicine Lodge finds it advisable to fix a time to seat members of the Governing Body that aligns with regularly scheduled meetings.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF MEDICINE LODGE, KANSAS:
Section 1.The City of Medicine Lodge, Kansas, by the power vested in it by Article 12, Section 5 of the Kansas Constitution hereby elects to and does exempt itself and make inapplicable to it the provisions of K.S.A. 25-2120 and K.S.A. 25-313, which applies to this city, but is part of an enactment which does not apply uniformly to all cities.
Section 2. The terms of the office shall begin at the first regular meeting of the council in January following the election and certification of election results
