There is hereby established an Airport Zoning Commission for the City of Medicine Lodge which shall be composed of the members of the Medicine Lodge City Planning Commission, which is also designated as the Board of Zoning Appeals for the City of Medicine Lodge. The Planning Commission was originally created by Ordinance No. 688 and was reestablished by Ordinance No. 717, in 1992.

The membership, terms, interest, and compensation of the members of the Airport Zoning Commission shall be the same as provided for the Planning Commission.

The Airport Zoning Commission shall meet at such time and place as may be fixed in their bylaws, if any are adopted, and their officers shall be the same as those elected for the Planning Commission. Special meetings may be called at any time by the chairperson or in that person’s absence, by the vice-chairperson. The Airport Zoning Commission shall be governed primarily by the bylaws of the Planning Commission as set forth in Ordinance No. 717, and by the provisions of K.S.A. 3-705 et seq.

The governing body and planning commission shall have all the rights, powers and duties as authorized by K.S.A. 3-705 et seq., and particularly those provisions set forth in K.S.A. 3-707, dealing with permits, variances and hazard marking and lighting.

The governing body shall provide for a budget for the Airport Zoning Commission as part of the budget for the Planning Commission, and make such allowances to the commission as it deems proper for the employment of such employees or consultants as the governing body may authorize and provide and the same shall be added to the general budge.
